Hi John
You might be interested in hearing about an alternative system of governance called “Dynamic Recovery Proxy”. It certainly allows citizens to take more control of their intentions in legislative proceedings.
The original inventor had taken his website down. Too bad! While I didn’t agree with him, he was able articulate some interesting ideas on governance. When interesting ideas are civilly discussed, maybe we can find better ways. We need more people like that fellow.
The first loyalty of any politician is to the party. The party is the vehicle to acquire status, influence, and power (and we could also argue a high salary with an interesting job). If the politician is going too far away from the party, the party will find ways to replace him or her.
The second loyalty of the politician is the society the politician governs. I would say that it is a distant second. Until we get rid of the political parties, we should not expect anything better.
