I think we need to think relatively, not absolutely. The Golden Age of Islam did produce a superior civilization around 1000 AD. Life was better on the Arabian side of the divide than the European side.

But to blame the fall on colonialism is missing the point. Islam and its nations became weak, which then allowed the European colonists to take over. Had nations under Islam been strong, that colonialism would not have happened.

As for unifying Islam and proving its system of governance is the model for a future world, that is a task for you and other Muslims. It will be mostly by example, not theology, that convinces the masses at large to consider the Islam model seriously.
