I am from Brooks Alberta. The oilpatch used to be pretty big around here. But the oil/gas shales are not geologically located in southern Alberta. There used to be two drilling companies. They are gone. There used to be five oilwell cementing companies. Now there is one.

There is still lots of production. But in 30 years, that will be gone. BTW, production employs far fewer people than the activities to build new oilfields.

The writing is on the wall for the oilpatch in this area.

I often wonder why people cannot see this writing and move on. Many probably did, but too many still wistfully yearn for the good old days.

I chuckled at the movie theater in Freer. Next to the building was a set of pipe racks.
