I can't recall "Nerve Staples" in Alpha Centuri, but it sounds like a likely component of two of the players.

A couple of months ago, I bought Civ III from Gog.com. So that has been an evening or two each week. I hear GOG has Alpha Centuri; I should probably stay away.
