To my knowledge, the founding fathers were fairly united in not having political parties in the American system of governance. They just couldn't find the right mechanism (i.e. smaller electoral units) to make it work.

Everything else they put together was designed with no political parties. When parties came into formation, much of the FF's social engineering was undone.
