I figured out that our democracy had a shelf life back in 1992. I was ending my tenure as an active member of a Canadian political party. I figured out that life in a political party was quasi-dysfunctional at best, as ambitious party members were climbing over each other, trying to get higher on the ridgeline. Our goal was to win elections, not better society. "This social structure can't last," I thought 29 years ago.
