I followed a lady who was an ex-evangelical Christian. I kind of liked her stories, but when the stories repeated themselves, I started wondering about gaming. Then I was getting articles about her having an affair with a married man. Same story, but at least 10 versions. I eventually unfollowed her.

But in one of her articles she bemoaned that her Medium earnings when down to $5000 the previous month. Maybe true, maybe not. If so, it is a sad state of our world condition if she makes that kind of money off that tripe. It says something about the average Medium reader to be giving her that many reads. Maybe many of her fans are trying to figure out her magic--and in doing so, they are giving her articles more attention than they deserve.

I enjoy a few writers from the science and history side of Medium. I have no intention of becoming that kind of writer. I started following one history fellow when he first started--and actually gave him some advice about his writing. He now has several thousand followers. Good for him.

Political writing is my interest. Unfortunately, my take on politics is about abandoning western democracy for another version of democracy. Not much audience for that. I follow quite a few political writers. Two seem to have made in the big leagues in Medium earnings. But they write the same thing over and over again. They might believe they are saving the world from Mr. Trump, but I think they are more concerned about not having to find a real job. The rest of the political writers are struggling. Most deserve to struggle, but some have potential for better gigs and we might find them as they gain more experience and exposure.
