I believe it is now common knowledge where the Republicans want to take the USA. That collective realization was not there in the immediate aftermath of 1-6. I believe that 1-6 came close to succeeding. Luckily, the man running the plan was not that smart.

I estimate that 25% of American would prefer a Republican oligarchy over a democracy. They are fairly united, so this minority is enough to create a serious attempt at another insurrection.

But the fact that Mr. Trump was a viable contender in 2016 is a sign of how broken American democracy is. We really need a new way.
