I get about five new followers a week. Yet my work seldom breaks 20 views. I have doubts that my work shows up on my followers' feed very much.

Likewise, many writers I follow don't show up on my feed. So if I want to see the work of these writers, I have to seek out their Medium bio and drill down from there.

I will admit that I do get some of my preferred writers on my feed. But most of my preferred writers are not there.

From my perspective, the feeds aren't working. At least 60% of my feed entries are from writers I do not follow. So being "distributed" or "curated" seems somewhat pointless.

My anecdote is confirmed by the scuttlebutt I get from other Medium contributors. No one really understands why some articles/writers are promoted more than others. I'm not sure this article will clarify things or things will change enough to make sense.

For example, I am very original. My main topic is about building a new democracy. No one else is talking about changing the world in this way. Yet I get only 20 views.

Circa October 2021, I wrote an article about how Medium could reform itself by having writers vote for other writers (which is kind of based on my alternative democracy). This will be a more credible system than the seemingly arbitrary system that is employed now.

I would provide a link to this article, but it will be both "clickbait" and "meta." So I'll let Medium dig this article up if it is interested.
