I had an interesting situation a couple of weeks ago. I was cleaning up our staff kitchen and needed to put some old food in the garbage can. The can was near the microwave and new female staff member was hovering over the microwave waiting for her food to heat up. To put the garbage in, I would have had to get into her bubble. I decided to put the old food on the counter and put it in the can later. The risk of being perceived to be a violator was too great.

At the risk of perception of being politically incorrect on this issue, I have a few comments.

I have to agree that men need to stop oogling. But being a man, I can say this easier said than done. There is some biological hard-wiring happening related the propogation of the species.

And there are some women who seem to value their sexual attractiveness to men — and present themselves in that way. This makes the oggling harder to control.

And then there is the “culture of the promiscuous.” About 10% of the population is into casual sex (about half of them are women). They need to find each other for their pleasure. Dressing in certain ways and congregating in certain places leads to the assumption of availability.

And when a women does provide consensual casual sex to a man, especially a boorish man, this then leads to the belief that women are indeed playthings for men.

To me, this is not just a men-only issue. It cannot be solved by only one gender.
