I hadn't heard much about the "golden mean", but that number seems to be the frequency of A divided by the frequency of C (or ratio of the sixth to the fundamental).

I know there's a lot more to music theory than what I know. I'll just keep this series within my limitations-------and have fun with the cosine curves.
