I have a teenage son who is a low academic performer. Giving him lots of homework is more likely to cause him to resent school. We need to keep him in school to get as much “reading, writing, and arithmetic” as we can before he ventures into the adult world.
But trying to dumb the whole school down to his level is not a solution. For kids that are destined for university, they need to be trained to handle lots of academic work. Having one to two hours of homework a day is that practice. And many kids seem to thrive on it.
