I have just finished reading a political science book from a prominent practioner in this field. Let's just say that my works are more advanced than hers (and her field's). Political scientists cannot let go of the political party.
I had to go to almost the end of her book before she mentioned the Trump presidency. She didn't say much about it and seemed not to understand where it came from or where it could go. But reading between the lines, she too believes in some sort of cataclysm to bring out the changes she is suggesting.
After WW2, the Marshall Plan reformed Germany's and Japan's government structures. The fall of communism saw a similar reform in the "west" side of former communist countries. But a cataclysm was necessary. The experts and lofty ideas came in after these nations were beaten up.
In Chapter 6, I talk about how to move from here to there without any big cataclism. WHen I wrote the third edition of my book in 2009 , I thought the USA had at least 20 years left before its democracy broke. So the TDG could have built in this time. It seems my 20-year prediction is a little generous. The TDG will likely have to be built with an oligarchy.
THe TDG needs to built by the people, not the experts.
