I have seen your comments with left-wing types who are getting too emotional. In some ways, they are not helping their cause.
I also liked your comments about certain right-wing responders about being paid Russian trolls. It seems like they fire off a 15-second comment, just enough to put some doubt, then leave the discussion. There is no intention of any kind of intellectual argument.
I have been on a few forums with lefties and righties pecking at each other. I have found too many conservative thinkers a little bereft of seeing other perspectives. For example, conservatives usually don’t like welfare. When I try to point out to them that cutting all social assistance will turn some of recipients to petty crime, conservatives don’t believe it. They believe that most welfare recipients will just find a job to support themselves — and are deliberately milking the system.
A lot of conservatism thought is not very defensible.
One reason why our conservative prime minister lost the election in 2015 is that he based much of his campaign on rampant crime in Canada — and he is going to get tough on crime. Yet all studies show that crime is going down in Canada. Today’s policies are working better than the policies of 30 years ago. Enough voters got wind of this, and rightly tossed the fellow out.
