I have Slovak heritage. A big part of the Slovak identity is that we were oppressed by the Hungarians for 900 years. So there used to be a lot of "looking down" on the Hungarians. But had the tides of history been reversed; i.e., the Slovaks conquered the Hungarians; I'm pretty sure the oppression would have gone the other way. We are all susceptible to force of tribalism.
