I have to agree. But if that introspection leads to another approach to "bend the will of the overly ambitious people who want to govern us," not much is going to change.
The first loyalty of any political party is to the political party. All other loyalties--like the nation at large, the average people who have most of the votes, the electoral district, the voting base--are a distant second place. Until we get rid of the political party, I would not expect any kind of satisfactory result.
The "introspection" will come from understanding the above paragraph. Then we can start building a new system with no political parties.
