I have to agree with Ms. Martenchek. The next populist leader will be smarter than Mr. Trump. Act 2 is indeed coming.

So what should we do next?

We could continue to read doomsday articles from Ms. Martinchek or other dystopians? We can hope that their words will prevent that future dystopia. We need only sit back, relax, and read.

Or we start building a new American democracy to replace the current version, which is obviously broken by how much closer to the brink we have come.
