I just finished reading "Political Order and Political Decay".
The author, an emminent political scientist, is still in favor of political parties as the vehicles for citizens to provided direction for their society. He calls this force "clientalism", where a democratic group or two get something they want when their party wins the election.
Yet the author is confounded with the US Republican Party, which really doesn't help the people who vote for it.
