We are reaping the rewards of a partisan system. We need a system with no political parties.

To comment on the essay, there is a whole psychology of why people of the Trump base are not letting go. They have built their persona and social structure around their political philosophy. To say that they were "wrong" would only mean losing all their friends and social support. They don't want the social isolation if they change their stance.
