I liked the first part of this essay. I was living in Czechoslovakia shortly after the fall. Life wasn't as bad as the anti-communist rhetoric was portraying.

Hypernormalization 2016 is a documentary that shows the state of our world. About 3/4 the way through, it talks about at how Putin has become a master at staging political events that put him as the saviour.
