I liked the "tub-and-shower" analogy in this article.
I can't remember much from my younger Catholic teachings, but one homily stands out. The priest was telling us that we could have been killed in a car accident coming to church. A great lesson that life always has risk.
When fall comes around and respiratory cases rise, I will be wearing a mask in the grocery stores again. For me, it's a simple inconvenience for reducing my risk.
I've got about 15 years in the Alberta oilpatch. Standard PPE is the hard hat. If you don't wear it, you get fired. I would say that about a third of the workers, if given the choice, would not wear it. Despite all of us getting the occasionally bonked in the head. The hard hat allows us to walk away and get back to work. Some people just can't measure risk and make the right decisions.
