I often wondered how many takes were required to find the right kind of Americans for Rick's show. Not all Americans are that ignorant.
I was sitting in a restaurant in Fort Nelson, British Columbia, overhearing a conversation of Americans travelling from Alaska to the 48 states. They couldn't wait for this "Canada" part of their journey to be over and get to real civilization. So there is more than enough anecdotal support for Rick's work.
And I would have concur that the show made Canadians feel better about ourselves. Other shows are pretty good at making "the other" look foolish. One such show is "Canada's Worst Driver". This isn't about improving the skills of bad drivers; it is to make other people look foolish. Maybe we need to be more critical of these kinds of shows.
