I predicted the rise of “internet democracy” back in 2000 with the first version of my book “Tiered Democratic Governance”. I was not comfortable with this idea. Internet democracy did not go exactly as I had thought, but it has become influential for sure.
In close elections, a shift of a fraction of half a percentage point can redefine the winner and loser — and the winner redefines society for the rest of the electoral term. But in essence, the actual number of people “changing their minds” is still very small. For example, the “Russion interference” was very small, but it is probably enough voters were affected in swing states to give Mr. Trump a narrow victory in those states.
My take is to kill the effect of internet democracy altogether. Tiered Democratic Governance is the solution.
