I probably read one of those essays/articles prior to 2008 and agreed: A recession is going to happen. Giving mortgages to people who can’t afford them is a recipe for a collapse.

USA does not seem to have learned the lesson. There is a another mortgage scandal looming because of a lack of banking regulations. But this scandal may be glossed over for the economic fallout of Covid 19.
