I read a lot of Heinlein in my youth. I'm pretty sure I read the book, but had little recollection of it when the movie came out (and even now). The book was one of many space dusters that sifted through my brain cells and out again.
But the movie was amazing. I remember distinctly the adage that "if you don't fight, you can't vote." I almost thought that might be a good way to run society.
Even though I liked the film, it seems I missed the message the artists behind the film were trying to make. With this article, the picture is a lot more clear. This film needs to be discussed more.
