I read the Bible in my early 20s. It took me about a year. And I did without the assistance of any theologian as I felt my judgement would be clouded. I came to a similar conclusion as you:
I closed my enormous textbook after finishing it and asked myself, “Well…who’s right?”
The Bible is a mysterious book and anyone who claims they fully understand it is, in my opinion, a fool.
Having said that, my wife and I like video sermons from Andy Stanley. He has such interesting takes on Scriptures that even non-Christians can apply to their lives.
And I understand that faith groups can create positive communities. We need that humanistic aspect in our lives.
And I often wonder about religious people who are obviously not living the life as well as they should. Where would they really be without religion guiding them?
