I read the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. One thing I gleaned from this work is that the Romans were not aware of their decline.

However, America has not collasped yet. It has not fragmented into many feudalistic states. It has time to reinvent its democracy.

All it needs is to find the 1% of its population who recognize the future collapse is happening and be willing to put in a few hours a month into building the new way.
