I really believed that Mr. Trump holding up that Bible in front of the church was going to be the decline of his campaign. Instead he increased his vote count from 62m to 75m. I decided then it was time for me to stop political fortune telling.

However, the events of January 6 were within the realm of possibilities. Many of us saw this back in 2016. As the stories are unfolding, this insurrection seems to be more and more planned than a haphazard protest that got a little out of control.

The question that nobody seems to be asking is what is the role of the electoral system in all this? It allowed someone like Mr. Trump to gain high office. Is that not a sign that something is wrong?
