I remember reading the book circa 1990. At that time, I believed that if a fundamentalist religion were to assume power, Gilead would be their utopia and craft some version of Gilead into their own social structure. I still believe that today.

Will American democracy ever provide the opportunity for a small fanatical minority to assume power? I guess that is the real question that should be asked. At this point, I’m not seeing it. The anti-Trump forces are quite strong and passionate.
