I see the situation a little differently.
The Republican Party is behaving in such a way that it sees itself leading a successful coup in the near future. The Texas abortion law is just one step in this process. If this law is somehow defeated, then that will be a sign that the system is rigged, which then provides incentive to put on a coup. If not defeated, then it is incentive that the law is correct and more laws like it are needed. A coup would put these laws together much faster.
True it is that a certain demographic is seeing itself as having less influence than it used to democracy churns on. A coup is better solution to this demographic than democracy.
A coup only needs about a third of the population to support it. The War of Independence was such a coup that did not have majority support in the American colonies.
