I spent six years in a Canadian political party. One of my reasons for this sojourn in life is that it put me into a position to inflict my version of a better world on everyone else. The fact that maybe 2% of Canadians are active in politics (if that) means that we are some kind of elite--even if we are fighting against each other.

Western democracy has corralled those overly ambitious people who want to govern us in somewhat considering the needs and wants of citizens outside their group. But we may be losing that guardrail.

Our next evolution will be to cast aside our power and influence gathering tendencies. Politics should evolve into true public service.
