I spent six years in the backrooms of a political party in Canada. I can see how my involvement took a little toll on the business I was trying to build. I saw how elected officials really don’t have much of a family life, going from one meeting the next, balancing societal expectations with party expectations. Family is a distant third.

Hunter’s Wikipedia article reads a troubled soul. I suspect he didn’t have a nurturing father in his life. Your article speaks to the reality.

I am no longer in party politics. I just couldn’t change the system. My departure only left a place for another overly ambitious person to take over.

But I did somehow invent another system of governance. I am hoping that it structures itself such that high-ranking officials can spend more time with their families and communities.
