I struggle with too many consumer decisions these days. I really like the raisin-bran muffins from my favorite grocery store. I don't like the plastic container that the half-dozen muffins come in.

You are probably aware of a big power plant in the UK that uses wood chips to generate electricity. Where do these woodchips come from? Canada! Canadian foresters are cutting down trees specifically for this plant. Then we ship the woodchips half way around the world to make British electricity.

This new industry doesn't make a bit of sense--economically speaking.

This process has been greenwashed as something good for the environment. Before Canadian sawmills had a fair bit of sawdust/chips that was burned in a big kiln. Some bright idiot thought it would be a good idea to turn that burning into British electricity.

Except there is not enough sawmill waste in Canada and the US to keep that plant operating. So entire forests have to be cut down just for that purpose.

Could we not have set up a small steam turbine in each samill to turn this waste into Canadian electricity?

Why we are not considering a new democracy is a mystery to me?

Congrats to the people in the UK. You have a prime minister who is going into his 9th month of public office.
