I tend to favor the latter explanation. Mr. Trump is not that smart--even if he knows how to stoke up a crowd. He should have put in a few lieutenants who knew what to do for him to call martial law. But when the Senate Chambers were breached, the insurgents seemed a little lost as what to do next.

But we really need a democratic system where the likes of Mr. Trump cannot rise high in politics.
