I think Sweden applies some complex math to allocate the seats in its legislature of proportional representation. The voters need not know how this math works; they just need to vote.

My comment should be summarized that there are bigger forces than mathematical principles stated.

The fault of current polling is that it may be accurate in voter intentions, but it cannot measure the motivation to cast a vote. Hence trying to pick the winner in a 48 vs 49 vs. 3 contest is often no better than a coin flip.

As this new system is being built, there will be new ways.

In the meantime, Canada seems unable to reform its Westminster model, despite its flaws. There is not much experimentation happening.
