I think we need to ask the question is that if the performers had dressed and behaved more modestly — yet still offered us their great dancing and singing talents — would they have been given the SuperBowl gig?
If over-sexualization is an integral part of the Latin culture, then I feel sorry for the Latin culture if that is all it has going for it.
But other cultures have bought into this same life theme, so it is not purely a Latin feature. I don’t see why the Latin culture needs to prove it is better than other cultures in this regard.
This half-time show was more about getting attention and getting richer than showcasing the Latin culture. Let’s not whitewash the real intent.
In the meantime, far too many impressible young girls had their values reinforced that their sense of self-worth depends on how men see women as sexually attractive.
