I think you are on to something. In the late 1950s, Robert Heinlein wrote about a human raised by Martians, then bringing to Earth a new philosophy. Converts were few, persecutions started, and the new messiah was eventually stoned to death.

Mr. Heinlein became rich and famous with that book.
