I took in the self-help gurus for a few years. It was the thing for the "successful" people to do. But for some reason, I began putting my spare time somewhere else. Not sure why at the time. But a decade later, I was seeing how empty the self-help profession really is.
Your article suggests the self-help profession has helped spawned a culture of wishful thinkers. ANYONE can be an Olympic athlete, build a bridge, or play in a symphony orchestra. All that is needed is lots of wishful thinking. Right?
Well done, Shelly.
