I tune in once a week to PBS Newshour to get briefed on current events in the USA. That was the night they pre-empted for the SOTU speech. I was impressed with how Mr. Biden handled that night.

Not wanting to seem unfair, PBS went to a Republican spokesperson, which was the Sarah H. rant. PBS did not offer any talking head to explain what she was saying. The network let the Ms. H's comments speak for themselves.

Needless to say, there wasn't much content there about how to make the USA a better place.

Alberta has a new premier. Danielle Smith is an experienced political operator and media personality. But she has come off rather clumsy in her public persona as premier. A few too many gaffes. I get that fact that politicians are ambushed by the media and sometimes don't have the right answer. But this has become too frequent.

I believe Ms. Smith's gaffes directly play into her base. They love it when she said COVID protocols were like the Holocaust. She is making these gaffes deliberately.

In a like manner, Ms. H said nothing to convince 70% of Americans to ever vote for her. But she is keeping the 30% happy.

It's time for a new way.
