I used to be a liberatarian-type thinker. Then I ran into a National Geographic article about a retirement town in Arizona. The local school was underfunded, and the only way to get more money into the school was through property taxes. The retired people opposed this tax increase.

“Don’t they realize that kids who go to these schools belong to families who support the lifestyle of wealthy retired people?” I thought. “If families cannot educate their children properly, they will leave town. Who will be the professionals at the hospital or keep the golf courses neat and tidy?”

Nope, many of the wealthy do not understand this relationship.
