I used to be an avid reader of Mad Magazine. It was there, I think, where I acquired this axiom:

Politics is the art of taking the rich man's money to get the poor man's vote.

Anyways, I think a Republican oligarchy is plausible post 2024. But they will be inept in governance and be forced off the stage within a decade. I'm not sure what will follow that act.

The USA could also bumble along for a few more election cycles.
