I wanted to highlight about 3/4 of this essay.

In 2016, the polls were predicitng a Clinton victory--even though these same polls said she had a slim margin.

I had an aunt the pollsters just loved. She would talk to them for hours, answering their silly questions. My aunt never voted.

The pollsters cannot measure the motivation to make a trip to the polls and cast a vote.

Very few people on Medium understand--or want to understand--that negative advertising is designed to convince the soft supporters of the other side not to vote. When a D supporter decides he/she has more important things to do, that is almost as good of a vote for the R's. And vice versa.

The ad people managing the campaigns fully understand how their ads are supposed to motivate opposing voters not to vote. The course of the election rests on the better ads an the exposure these ads get.

It is such a broken system!
