I was helping a Bosian family get accustomed to life in Canada. Fikrit spent a year in the Bosnian army, shooting at Serbs and Croats. When he got the chance to come to Canada, he took it.

Fikrit got involved in a small pizza business, and the partnership broke up. The partners took Fikrit to small claims court. He lost, but moved on. Better to use courts and lawyers than bullets.

But when the laws get silly, it's hard to be acceptable on verdicts we don't like. Both sides of the political divide have less respect for the law.

I posted this article on LinkedIn. It got a comment about how a corporation in British Columbia got fined $4000 for polluting a stream, killing all the fish. The equipment to fix the problem would have cost $10,000.
