I was in Hyder Alaska in 1992. The population of this small town was about 100, and existed to cater to Canadian tourists looking for a littel adventure in NW British Columbia. I could have bought a few handguns and easily smuggled them across the border.

One interesting feature of this town was a chapel of the Russian Orthodox Church presuasion. I asked a local or two about that. They said that there was an American fellow who was a local priest. But no one really attended. The money to maintain this building, its priest, and presence had to come from somewhere. Russian interference?
