I was in Vienna, killing some time as the Canadian consulate was making a new passport for me.

I can't remember exactly where I saw this display, but I remember how it shook me. Circa mid 1930s, a 15-year old Viennese girl saw a crowd in the street. She pushed her way to front. She saw the Nazi brownshirts barking orders to old men scrubbing the cobblestone with brushes. One of the old men looked at her. It was her family's doctor. He was Jewish.

The display ended with the brownshirts, old men, and crowd going their separate ways. But it was a harbinger of worse things to come. The brownshirts were slowly inculcating the masses to accepting those "worse things."

The USA has been on this path since 2016. Canada's Trucker Protest of Winter 2022 is another harbinger.
