I was living in Brno at the time of the divorce. I say quite a few things at this time. But I'll just give this anecdote for now.

Communism tried to uplift the Slovak side of the country, but there were many decades of feudal mismanagemnt to overcome. It was expected that the Slovak economy would suffer with the divorce. And it did. But with Slovaks no longer blaming the Czechs, they seemed to solve their own problems in their own way. Decentralization really worked.
