I worked as a tutor in a College. My function was to help students acquire their high school credentials. The Lottery was one of several short stories in English class.

Our classes had many immigrants to Canada. I often wonder if the story ever challenged them to question some of their beliefs.

I had not considered the feminist angle before. But given when it was written, that angle was part of our culture back then. Maybe the author deliberately included it the story to highlight another tradition that needed losing.
