I would have to agree with you on that one. I wonder if the CEO's back then took a more relaxed approach to their job. It really was pointless to put in 80-hour workweeks, financially speaking.
But running a business, big or small, has its own creative challenge. I can see many business people giving up some income to be in the middle of this challenge.
And with the high marginal tax rates, it was kind of pointless for the CEOs to ask for a big raise. So executives salaries stayed "low."
