I would like to subscribe to a few media sources, but my income says this would be a luxury. So I am confined to the free media, which in Canada is not too bad. We don't have a Foxx vs. MSNBC.

One suggestion I came across a years ago is that every citizen can allocate some share of government funds to their favorite media outlet. In this way, the media is less reliant on advertising and citizenry has a say in which media is relevant.
