I would say that JFK took the world to the edge of the cliff as well with his handling of the Cuba crisis. Had his attentions been on his job (instead of skirts), the USA would not have needed to go to that cliff edge.

Western electoral systems, especially the American version, are far from perfect in selecting the better individuals for governance. It is time for a different system.
